Her Life in Focus: Karmina Constantino – Journalism with Conviction

As we celebrate Women’s Month, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, in partnership with The Philippine Star and PhilSTAR L!fe, proudly presents “HER LIFE: A Celebration of Women Who Lead.” This immersive exhibit shines a light on women whose leadership, innovation, and resilience continue to shape industries and inspire generations.

One of the ladies featured in the gallery is Karmina Constantino-Torres, a formidable force in Philippine journalism. With nearly three decades in the industry, Karmina has built a reputation as a fearless journalist—one who asks the hard questions, holds power to account, and remains steadfast in her commitment to truth.

As one of the longtime anchors at ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), her incisive interviews and sharp reporting have earned the trust of viewers who rely on her for in-depth, uncompromising coverage of the most pressing issues. Her dedication to press freedom was recognized in 2022 when she was awarded the Marshall McLuhan Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism—a testament to her unwavering pursuit of the truth.

But beyond the accolades, Karmina sees journalism as a responsibility—a duty to ensure that the public has access to accurate and unfiltered information. She shared, “I know it’s a pipe dream, but I hope people will see and respect journalism for what it is. It’s about ferreting out the truth no matter how ugly it is, holding people to account, speaking truth to power. It’s about making sure that the citizenry has the correct information at their disposal so they can make informed choices. That is my hope—not for the future, but for now.”

Karmina understands that journalism is not for the faint-hearted. It is a profession that demands integrity and an unwavering sense of purpose.

“The best advice I could give young journalists is to know yourself. Know your core, know your principles, know what you stand for before you even enter this field. Because there are so many external factors that could shake you to your core. And if your core isn’t strong, you can easily be used by the powers that be to put out content that benefits only them—not the people, not the country,” she shared.

For Karmina, journalism is more than just a career—it is a calling. A commitment to truth, justice, and the people she serves.
