King Chef Seafood Restaurant was born from Marites Apiado-Ang’s deep passion for cooking and Cantonese cuisine. Previously a retailer, she developed a love for authentic Cantonese flavors during her frequent sourcing trips to China. This eventually inspired her to establish Cantonese Soup Kitchen, a Banawe-based restaurant known for its specialty in herbal soups.

The idea for King Chef took shape when Marites and her husband, Michael Chan-Ang, came across a new restaurant space. Seeing an opportunity to expand, they envisioned a concept that would allow them to explore beyond the offerings of Cantonese Soup Kitchen. They named their new venture King Chef, a tribute to their customers—whom they regard as “kings,” embracing the timeless adage, “The customer is king.”
