Megaworld’s pioneering township adds color to the country’s longest Christmas celebration by lighting up life-sized Christmas toy displays and kicking off a toy donation drive

Eastwood City, Quezon City — The merriest season of the year has definitely arrived, what with Christmas lights sparkling bright in every corner, people taking photos left and right in front of towering Christmas trees, and carolers singing their hearts out to the tune of classic Yuletide hits.

The essence of Christmas, however, goes beyond the ornaments and the feast for the senses. More than everything, Christmas is a season for sharing our blessings, making memorable moments with our loved ones, and basking in the spirit of merriment. This year, Eastwood City, Megaworld’s premier township in Quezon City, spreads the spirit of Christmas by bringing smiles to the faces of families and kicking off a season of gift-giving and merriment.

Eastwood City was the first in the country to kick off Christmas this year when it lit up its 40-foot Christmas tree adorned with toys and trinkets as early as September. Today, Eastwood City dazzled further as it launched and lit up the entire township with its Christmas toy town display, which includes life-sized Christmas toy decorations, to add more color to the longest Christmas celebration in the Philippines. The lighting ceremony held at the Eastwood Mall Open Park was led by Kevin Tan, chief strategy officer of Megaworld Corporation, and Graham Coates, head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

“Through our Christmas attractions this year, we want everyone to remember Eastwood City not only as a place where they create meaningful memories with their loved ones, but also as an inspiration to share and spread happiness this joyous season,” said Tan.

Adorned with boxes of gifts and toys, Eastwood City’s giant Christmas tree embodies the essence of giving and receiving presents as a universal custom of Christmas — from receiving candy canes from Santa Claus, exchanging gifts during Kris Kringles, to leaving presents under the Christmas tree.

On top of decorating the entire township with boxes of gifts and trinkets, Eastwood City also launched a toy donation drive to encourage the entire community to take part in the season’s essence of goodwill and generosity. Proceeds of the donation will be given to Kythe Foundation, a non-profit, non-stock organization whose works revolve around improving the quality of life of children hospitalized with cancer and other chronic illness. Since 1992, Kythe has been providing psycho-social support to over 11,000 children in need, as well as their families.

The Quezon City Symphonic band opened the lighting ceremony with a full rendition of upbeat Christmas songs. Guests were also treated to an LED Blacklight performance and a number from the Quezon City Performing Arts. Also pumping up the opening of the Christmas season in the township were world-class musicians Aicelle Santos and Christian Bautista, who serenaded everyone with classic Christmas carols.

Aside from unveiling the giant christmas tree and dazzling displays, Eastwood City unwrapped its festivities for families and friends to enjoy this Yuletide season. Among the fairs, big events, and activities that could be enjoyed at Eastwood City are Amplified Artist Search, Gaddiel Christmas Decors Pop-up, Warner Pop Expo, Eraserheads Vinyl Launch, Barbie 60th Anniversary Life-sized Dreamhouse, Pink Fong’s Baby Shark Meet & Greet, and Oh Wonder LIVE performance.

Eastwood City will also open the Christmas Village at Citywalk, the Christmas Fair at Central Plaza, and they have invited hottest music artists in the country for the weekly Christmas Music Series, and of course, Santa Meet & Greet for the entire month of December.
