Newport Mall at Resorts World Manila is celebrating International Women’s Month with a unique art showpiece featuring different portraits of women made by premier and award-winning Filipino visual artist Reynold Dela Cruz and German visual artist Katrin Hamann. Their masterpieces will be on display at Newport Mall’s Art By The Garden exhibit from March 15 – 26 at the 2nd floor of the mall’s new Garden Wing.
Art enthusiasts and collectors can marvel at the works of the two world-class artists or purchase an art piece via www.rwmexclusives.com, the Resort World Manila’s official online sales channel throughout the exhibit’s duration.
Dela Cruz is known for his body of work that focuses on the mystery of beauty. One of the most interesting elements of his works involves slicing the canvas after completing the image of a woman as this action, according to him, portrays physical dissection and research into the depth of beauty and desire. Afterwards, he uses safety pins to stitch the sliced pieces together symbolizing the reconstruction or fixing something that has been destroyed like trust, memory or love.
All his artworks are made based on personal experiences and how he witnessed the opposing ideas of this world. The light and dark, the good and bad, and the beauty and ugliness.
Dela Cruz won his first award, the Jurors’ Choice in Art Association of the Philippines in 1995, and from then, he received multiple recognition and awards here and abroad like as a Finalist in Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards in Manila year 2001, an Honorable Mention in Vermont Asian Freeman Artist Fellowship in USA year 2004 and 2007 and in News Week Feature, Saatchi Gallery in London year 2011. He also started his solo exhibition in 2001 at Boston Gallery in Quezon City and joined local and international group exhibitions in 2015 such as Tin-aw Art Gallery in Makati and Imago Mundi, Luciano Benetton Collection in Italy.
Katrin Hamman on the other hand, leans toward the colorful spectrum. She loves colors that pop, sparkles and anything that stands out to which she embodies on the characters that she paints.
Hamman is a German painter and curator who holds a masteral degree in cultural science with a focus on fine arts and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim. She then started the field of room installations, short films and photography.
This multi talented artist has presented her crafts in Europe and Asia. In the Philippines, she joined the International Exhibition at Gallery Roberto last year, 2020. She also organized several provocative exhibitions in Hanover like “Art on the 16th Floor,” “Art on the Cinema,” and “Art in the Police Station.”
She also joined Kontakt exhibition in Hamburg, Germany year 2014, Yogyakarta International Art Festival in Yogyakarta, Indonesia year 2015, International Art Mart in Khajuraho, India year 2016, Hongqiao Contemporary and Modern Art Museum in Shanghai, China year 2017 and Hanoi March Connecting 2018 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
