Megaworld Cinemas in the National Capital Region, Laguna and Iloilo are set to reopen on November 10 with upgraded movie theaters and more intensified safety measures to ensure a safe welcome to moviegoers.
Screening of movies will resume in 7 Megaworld Cinemas across the country including Eastwood Cinemas, Lucky Chinatown Cinemas, Newport Cinemas, Uptown Cinemas and Venice Cineplex in Metro Manila; Southwoods Cinemas in Biñan City, Laguna; and Festive Walk Cinemas in Iloilo City.
To ensure the utmost safety of moviegoers, Megaworld Cinemas is rolling out new upgrades and innovations. These include newly-renovated movie theaters with reconfigured seats to ensure the proper observance of social distancing, intensified sanitation of seats and surroundings using UV technology, contactless movie ticket purchase system and modified air filtration and circulation system.
Eastwood Cinemas in Eastwood City is welcoming movie-goers to newly-renovated movie theaters with reduced seating capacity and redesigned seating configurations that allow better observance of social distancing. Additional aisles in between seats are also provided to allow freer movement of movie watchers when going in and out of the movie theaters.
To ensure optimum air quality, all Megaworld Cinemas are using modified ventilation and air-conditioning systems designed to pump 100% fresh air round-the-clock. Air vents are also equipped with Merv 13 air filters that can trap smaller particles including viruses and air purifiers are placed strategically inside the movie theaters to ensure optimum air quality.
Markings showing designated entry and exit points and pathways are also placed strategically to easily facilitate safe distancing and flow of foot traffic inside the movie theaters. The number of movie screenings will also be reduced to devote time for disinfection and sanitation of seats, touchpoints and common areas in between movie screenings.
Megaworld Cinemas is also using hand-held UV disinfection lights to thoroughly clean seats and surfaces, and a state-of-the-art UV sterilizer tower to sanitize the surroundings of its movie theaters before and after each movie screening.
Megaworld Cinemas is also prioritizing contactless payments for movie ticket purchase. Moviegoers can book their seats and buy their movie tickets in advance through www.megaworldcinemas.com or buy cashless using GCash, PayMaya, WeChat, and Alipay at cinema ticket booths. Upon purchase, customers will receive a QR code via email, which they can present to the ushers at the movie theaters’ entrances.
Megaworld Cinemas has also fully vaccinated 100% of its cinema frontliners, who are also required to wear face masks, face shields and gloves, and submit daily health declarations before deployment.
In recognition of its efforts to ensure moviegoers’ safety, all Megaworld Cinemas have also received Safety Seal certifications from various local government units (LGUs).
“We know that watching movies on the big screen is an experience that cannot be replicated and we are happy to welcome back movie fans to our theaters. We went above and beyond prescribed public health and safety standards to ensure that they will not only enjoy their favorite movies but also feel safe and secure,” said Graham Coates, first vice president and head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.
In line with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases guidelines, Megaworld Cinemas will also observe 30% seating capacity for fully-vaccinated individuals only.
Minimum public health and safety standards will be implemented, including mandatory wearing of face masks and submission of health declaration forms, temperature check and hand sanitation upon entry to the movie theater. Guests are advised to stay seated and keep conversations to a minimum for the duration of the show. Consumption of food and beverages inside the movie theaters is also prohibited.
