Lifestyle malls pioneer Megaworld Lifestyle Malls has launched the country’s first mall-based charging stations for e-bikes, e-scooters, e-vehicles and e-PUVs in Uptown Bonifacio, providing a vital facility that will cater to the growing number of Filipinos who are opting for alternative modes of mobility in the face of rising oil prices and fare increases.

The company’s e-mobility initiative, launched in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), kicked off with the official opening of the company’s first charging station for electric automobiles in Uptown Mall.

Located at the mall’s Basement 2, the charging station has two slots and can accommodate electric automobiles from American and European manufacturers. The facility is among the first to be equipped with two Pulsar Plus 22kW chargers, the most powerful in its class.

New EV charging stations that will cater to most e-vehicles including e-bikes, e-scooters, e-PUVs and even electric automobiles from Asian manufacturers will also be launched in Uptown Parade open parking area in August.

All EV charging facilities in Uptown Bonifacio will be free of charge and available for all users of e-vehicles on a first come, first served basis.

As part of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ wider e-mobility initiative, which comes on the heels of the passage of Republic Act No. 11697 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, four more charging stations will be built across the company’s lifestyle malls and townships in Metro Manila including Eastwood City, McKinley Hill, Forbes Town and Arcovia City. These charging stations are set to be completed within the year.

“Sustainability is one of our major thrust as a company and we take great pride in joining this initiative by the government to cater Filipinos’ growing demand for alternative transportation solutions that are both convenient and environment-friendly,” says Graham Coates, head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ EV charging stations initiative is supported by PGA Cars, Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Power Equipment and Supplies, Inc. (PESIN) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
