Sculptor Glenn Cagandahan is showcasing his sculpture collection, using the convergence of folk imagery and unfamiliar shapes to take spectators back to the familiar comfort of home.
From June 7-27, art patrons and guests may explore Cagandahan’s remarkable creations at Newport Mall’s Obra, featuring the Art by the Garden exhibit. Interested patrons may also purchase Cagandahan’s art pieces through RWMExclusives.com, the official selling platform of Resorts World Manila.
Known for using synthetic resin endowed upon steel armatures to create expressionist works, Cagandahan attempts to assimilate modern sculpture materials into stories from the Philippine rural scene.
The Filipino sculptor seeks to introduce modern methods and materials in the Philippine sculpture landscape, shifting from traditional materials like wood and metal to modern materials such as resin, fiberglass, plastics, and ready-mades.
His works combine the dreamy melt of Dali’s paint and the attenuations of Giacometti’s structures to create folksy sculptures that can be seen in the form of earth spirits, guitar players, carabao riders, and other subjects set in the rural scene.
Cagandahan received training in sculpture at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. He has been a consistent winner in the national art competition, Art Association of the Philippines in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2006, he won Second Prize in the Sculpture Category. In May 2018, his sculpture was auctioned and sold at Borobudur Auction House. He is currently teaching Humanities 2 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
Likha featuring Art by the Garden is among the various activities in Galing Pinas, Newport Mall’s Independence Day celebration. Newport Mall implements intensive safety and sanitation measures. Wearing of masks, temperature checks, and footwear sanitation are mandatory and alcohols and sanitizers are placed within the vicinity.
For a convenient malling experience, Newport Mall offers free parking for the month of June from 11 am to 9 pm.
